What really impresses me about the Apostle Paul--and what so many people fail to see--is that he did all of his ministry as a team. He was not a Lone Ranger or Rambo trying to go it alone. He constantly built teams and effectively led them. This is one of the best chapters that illustrates this truth. Look at how he interacts with his various teams at different places. Notice his zeal, commitment and passion to build teams and develop leaders. The secret to doing this is found in verse 28 as Paul gives his final instructions to the leaders from Ephesus. He tells them basically two things: look after yourselves, and be a good shepherd of others. Leadership and teamwork starts from within. You have to be disciplined, growing, and focused yourself before you can effectively lead others. Then, you approach others as a shepherd, gently but decisively walking with them in the direction they should go.
