We all enjoy getting gifts, whether it's for Christmas, birthdays, or just for something special. Many of us have also experienced the joy in giving gifts and the thrill that comes from doing something special for someone else.
As believers, we should be known for our generosity. We should be known for the way that we give of ourselves and our resources.
That is the theme of the little one-chapter book of Philemon. "You are generous because of your faith. And I am praying that you will really put your generosity to work, for in so doing you will come to an understanding of all the good things we can do for Christ." That's what Paul told Philemon and his church. We need to put our generosity to work.
Because we are Christians, we ought to be the most generous people alive because we have been the recipients of so much generosity. We know what it means to be lavished upon with goodness and blessings and incredible rewards. We have received all of this and more as a result of Christ's sacrifice.
Now if we will forsake materialism and selfishness, then we will be able to accomplish more for Christ then we ever thought possible. Let's do just that and strive to be generous towards others.
